Top Artists To Look Out For In Sussex

Every month, we’ll be highlighting some of our favourite rising artists in Sussex. We know that not everyone is interested in discovering a dozen new artists every month, so we’ll be keeping our list short and exclusive. Discover our top three singer-songwriters making a splash on the Sussex music scene this October.

Lindsay H

London-born Lindsay H has been passionate about music since she was a child, first playing the piano at the tender age of just six years old and penned her first song at 12.

The singer-songwriter effortlessly ranges from a myriad of genres from soul, pop, and blues to folk and hints of jazz to spice things up.

Lindsay H writes and performs her own music in London and Sussex, having just released her new single about breaking stereotypes and breaking beats, ‘Bad Feminist’ featuring J.None is out now.

Listen to ‘Bad Feminist’ wherever you get your musical fix.

Rising songwriter Sam Tompkins has shared his new single 'Not So Grey'.

Sam Tompkins

From just across the pond, in Brighton, the musical renaissance continues with Sam Tompkins, a fresh emerging act. Tompkins was born and raised in the town of Eastbourne where he found himself being influenced from an early age by artists ranging from Justin Timberlake to Ray Charles and even the man himself, Drake.

The young artist's musical journey began in 2017 where he picked up steam with a few covers that gained quite a bit of recognition. Eventually, it was his cover of Bebe Rexha's "I Got You" that won him an MTV contest for "Cover of the Month," thrusting him into a worldwide spotlight.

The south coast artist has had a stellar year, with his five-track EP 'From My Sleeve To The World', landing in October.

Combining pensive, emotional songwriting to the UK underground, Tompkins has worked alongside artists such as Jaykae and REN, a Brighton-based musician.

New single 'I miss Sarah' is a solo release in the truest sense, with the gliding treated-guitar recalling those recent Bibio cuts.

It's a sweet return, with the uplift in Sam Tompkins vocals, re-affirming his innate optimism.

Tune in now.

Ren

A well-known face around Brighton’s busking scene, Ren Gill, 30, has been performing to ecstatic crowds for years, with early beginnings in the music industry coming when he was discovered performing on the streets of Bath, as part of indie-pop band Trick the Fox.

Despite having built a loyal fan base, due to health issues, Ren was forced to halt his music endeavours and move home to Brighton. During what he describes as ‘a time of isolation’, Ren was bed-bound for years having been diagnosed with Lyme Disease.

After channeling his frustration into songwriting and producing from his bedroom, Ren has now recovered and is ready to share his art with the world.

Listen to his new track, Sweet Little Lady, out now.
