Artist Residence London: A Hidden Haven In The Heart Of Pimlico

The contemporary neighbourhood of Pimlico is a vibrant hub of cool bars, buzzing high streets and artisanal cafes which dot the upscale district. Set in the heart of Pimlico on Cambridge Street sits Artist Residence London, an eclectic boutique hotel whose unique decor, according to the website, is inspired by Brighton street art. Like its forebears in Brighton and Penzance, the hotel is petite but packs a powerful punch with its world-class hospitality offering. Société magazine shines a light on the stylish, all-encompassing hotel below.

Location

Set on a quiet street lined with grand terraced homes and vibrant leafy squares, Artist Residence London occupies a handsome five-storey Regency terrace on Cambridge Street in an optimal location for exploring the smart shops and cafes which line the pretty streets.

Central and well-connected, the contemporary neighbourhood of Pimlico provides visitors with stylish surroundings yet is far enough from the buzz of Oxford Street and Piccadilly Circus to truly experience a sense of seclusion and relaxation.

Well-known for its Regency architecture, sweeping white stucco façades and cool bars, Pimlico has, over the past few years, become a vibrant neighbourhood with must-see attractions within close proximity. Victoria Palace Theatre, Tate Britain, the famed Saatchi Gallery and the exciting new development, Eccleston Yards, all make Pimlico an attractive destination for guests.

The River Thames is a 10-minute walk away; an early morning stroll along the river with a hot cup of coffee and fresh croissant is a favourite pastime of many who live along the riverside.

Rooms

Artist Residence London consists of just 10 individually-designed rooms, including two suites, with our favourite being the retro, simply-titled ‘Medium Room’. Clad with reclaimed wooden boards, art deco paintings adorn the walls and a vintage mirrored centrepiece ties the room together.

The super-king-size beds are lauded as some of the most comfortable guests have ever experienced, according to reviews on TripAdvisor, and feature four plush pillows, lavish Egyptian cotton linen* and a stylish wool throw ideal for a winter evening seated outside the boutique hotel’s in-house restaurant, Cambridge Street Kitchen.

Together, powerful rainfall showers, fluffy bathrobes, lavender hand cream and warmed towels add cosy touches to the eclectic room. Vintage furnishings, limited edition prints, along with the reclaimed and salvaged materials (such as the wardrobe doors made from delivery pallets), tea-crate drawers and milking-stools all make for a quaint stay in Pimlico, quite unlike anywhere else in the area.

Amenities in the room include a mini Smeg fridge, flatscreen TV, Roberts radio, kettle and little luxuries include a selection of Joe's teas and two British classic Caramel wafers, bathrobes and slippers, and Bramley natural bath products.

*Hypo-allergenic bedding is available on request.

Dining

On the property, Artist Residence London has two options for guests to choose from should they feel peckish, thirsty or are just looking for a good time. The Cambridge Street Kitchen is a revived Victorian pub transformed into a buzzing space attracting the local well-heeled clientele.

A stylish outside seating area ensures said clientele are seen at the trendy social hub. Clarendon Cocktail Cellar also dates back to the Victorian times and is a popular local hotspot serving nibbles, aperitivo and a menagerie of playful cocktails, each named after iconic movies such as Titanic, Driving Miss Daisy and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

A Medium Room is £215.00 per night at the time of writing.
