Is this the most flamboyant new hotel in Paris?
The new hotel is set in the thriving heart of Marais and features flamboyant design, incredible Israeli food at Boubalé, two stylish bars and a large indoor swimming pool.
A fusion of three buildings, parts of which date back to the 14th century, Le Grand Mazarin houses 50 rooms and 11 suites and is the first hotel project in the French capital designed by Martin Brudnizki, the celebrated Swedish interior designer known for his rococo transformation of London nightclub, Annabel's.
Inside, bedrooms are coloured in bright shades of green and coral, walls hung with tapestries and furnished with marble-topped minibars and ruffle-trimmed, leopard-print slipper chairs. The joie de vivre of Paris has found its new epicentre.
An all-day restaurant, Boubalé ("my little darling" in Yiddish), serves modern takes on Jewish favourites like gefilte fish, challah and kreplach. Le Grand Mazarin also features two bars, one of them a speakeasy-style lounge with marbleized wallpaper and Murano glass ceiling lights.
Speaking of the interior energy that moved him whilst working on the hotel, Brudnizki laments, "It's immersive. I wanted to create the atmosphere of arriving in someone’s home and having the most whimsical time.”
The design is a tribute to French classicism, boldly offset by the designer's talent and enhanced by the best arts and crafts the capital has to offer.
Rates range from £830 per room with breakfast included.
